On this tour we start at the Campanile Tower, commemorating the landing of the 1820 Settlers in the City. We follow the route, passing murals painted on pillars below the freeway representing different South African cultures, visit Vuyisile Mini Square where we view the City Hall, Library and Padrao and past the oldest church in the City, St Mary’s Cathedral.
Once we have climbed the 67 steps we view and talk about the Donkin Reserve, including various art pieces like Windward, Fish Bird and the Voting Line. From here it is a short walk to Fort Frederick and the Route comes together at the Athenaeum where it is possible to see 67 beaded works, each representing a year in Nelson Mandela’s life.
